BandFest 2011
A unique start to a new tradition!
The Marcus Band Cluster held their first combined event on Friday, September 16, 2011. To set the stage, there are three Middle Schools that feed into Marcus: Briarhill, Downing and Lamar. All four bands had been practicing and getting ready for this event for weeks. The DFW area, on the other hand had just set the record for most days of over 100 degrees...ever! So long 1980.
Rain was something that we needed and wanted.
However, we were hoping it would not rain for those few hours the band were coming together. As is the often case in life, this was not to be. The rain started just as the bands were coming together at Marcus High School and did not stop until late into the night. One of the awesome traits of the staff, parents and musicians themselves is their ability to adapt and overcome. Rather than call it a night, the bands assembled in the the indoor practice facility to warm up. As the rain continued, the parents joined them in the building (wet and warm) for an indoor performance.
The band sounded great. The kids learned, had fun and made new friends. A unique start to this new tradition, but a great night nonetheless!

You MUST sign in at the hostess stand. Tell them you are with Lamar Band and they will count how many people are in your party. We need to have at least 100 people show up, in order to get any profit. If we have 100 or more people show up, El Chico will give our band 10% of the profits from the evening.

Parent Reminders:
We need gift card donations for the
raffle. If possible please purchase $5-$10 gift cards (food,
games, movie rental, etc.). Have your band student deliver them
to the black box in the office. We would like these turned in by
Wednesday, October 12.
Decoration crew will set up after school on Friday, Oct. 14.
Chaperons please arrive between 6:15 and 6:30
Individual size snacks are needed. Drinks need to be individual
cans or plastic bottles. Snacks and drinks can be delivered the
week of the party Tuesday-Thursday before or after school to the
band hall. If you can!

AA-L bring sweet snack (no sticky food/gum, easy to sweep up)
M-Q bring salty snack br />
R-Z bring case of soda or water
We will also need a cleanup crew afterwards. This is a big job
and requires everyone's participation.
