What in the world is All-District?
Great question! All-District is an opportunity for individuals in 7th and 8th grade to prepare college-level music and anonymously perform for a panel of experts. At the end of the day, all performing students are ranked in their instrument, and the top performers will get to miss a day of school to rehearse in a band with the top students in LISD. The band gives a concert for friends and family that same evening. It’s an incredible concert, and a huge honor to be part of it. This is certainly something the kids remember for the rest of their life.
Each year, All-District is held at an LISD Middle School on a Saturday in October. The entire competition lasts from 8:30am-5pm, but students will have an assigned 30-minute window to perform. Once their performance is complete, they can leave for the day. Mr. Duermeyer and Mrs. McClain email the results to parents that weekend.
This year: All-District Band Auditions are on Saturday, October 21st @ Arbor Creek Middle School
Here are some important things to remember:
7th and 8th graders all compete against each other. Because of this, 8th graders tend to do bit better due to an extra year of playing. However, the experience gained by the 7th graders is invaluable!
- Every student attending this event worked hard, and improved so, so much. While we love seeing our kiddos given the honor of being in the All-District Band, it’s their improvement and hard work over the last two months that means the most to us.
How is All-Region Different?
Another great question! While All-District is comprised of middle school students in LISD, All-Region expands this to all of Region 2. This includes LISD, Denton ISD, and Northwest ISD, Argyle ISD, Lake Dallas ISD, among others. Along with the expanded amount of students, the process happens on different days depending on the instrument you play. Otherwise, the music and process is almost exactly the same for the students.

Flute, Clarinet, Alto Sax, French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, or (Advancing)Percussion: All-Region Auditions are Saturday, October 28 @ Huffines MS
